Wonderful. Just wonderful. There's nothing else like this anywhere. You are truly a modern-day philosopher. I love the metaphors and symbolism and almost foreshadowing shown in the birds, an how they are never even noticed, and yet they are the underlying backbone of this whole story and the thing we dare to call life.
Adam Alon 06/08/10
That was fantastic

Exceptional animation! I really enjoyed watching every simple gesture and emotion unfold with such seemingly easy style and economy. Brilliantly conceived and executed. The voice actors are perfect. Thank you for a worthwhile five minutes of my life.

Good animation, but it lives up to the title a little to well...
Sam Haynes 12/09/08
Joe, you really are THAT good. Fair play to you. Hope you're well.
tanja Mamas 06/09/08
it made me smile - i loved the simplicity.
Adam 29/08/08
poignant concept. I absolutely loved it. I also loved the way that you were able to carry across such a strong message in a very simple animation. It was very well thought out. I don't think that you would have gotten the message across as effectively had you created a more complex animation. Well done.
anton 26/08/08
i appreciate the concept but while watching i can't help but imagine how awesome you think you are for making something as "original etc etc" apart from this, i enjoyed however don't appreciate the out of place indie "quirky" comedy.
Anonymous 26/08/08
I liked it. Thanks.

I don't want to be an asshole... but "In your arms"- now that is a good animation: http://www.entusbrazos.fr/ It is unbelievable to look at, and it is so moving. This just left me feeling faintly puzzled. (Great voice acting, though.)
ShayShay 24/08/08
What a boring piece of crap. Semi-realistic, but arguably the most tedious garbage.
Avd33 24/08/08
I loved this piece, its one reason I cant wait to leave my job as Im travelling to new zealand! :D
Tim 24/08/08
Possibly the best animation I've ever watched. Keep up the good work!

Anya 24/08/08
I DID wait a really long time for it to load... but it was worth the wait. Wonderful voice acting, loved the animation. Keep up the good work everyone! And the message... well, I love how honest it is. Fairly pessimistic, but I suppose we all are sometimes.
Sam 24/08/08
Amazing, I really enjoyed it.

I cant help thinking.....i knew joe davis........
Chloe 23/08/08
I simply loved it.
Marcus 23/08/08
The voice acting was really good, but I don't understand the content of this. Is it something for people who are neurotic about their life not having a grand purpose, or something like that? I'm not a stupid person by any definition, but I really didn't get it.
Horia 23/08/08
this is some decent work. good job
Annie 23/08/08
Wow, thank you for creating that animation. We are all dealing with similar issues, I know I've had the same kinds of thoughts. The video was simplistic yet thought provoking. Thank you!
mr.w 22/08/08
Thank you for making my work day go by more easily in a spectacular way.
Tony 12/08/08
I've watched this many times and I've read all the comments left by other views many times. I can't quite believe that someone who used to be scared of ballons can draw them to such good effect and make so many people feel alive...
Anne Mathewson 13/04/08
I found "These Are The Boring Bits" to be engaging, imaginative, and anything but boring. The simplicity of the art and backset was genius, allowing viewers to concentrate solely on dialogue and events as they played out. Plus, I was extremely pleased to find the film for which i voted won TGSNT V grand prize. Very deserved. Congratulations!
Paul Driessen 8/04/08
Hi Joe, Finally caught up with your work and I'm glad I did; I really enjoyed your boring bits, very well written (you also found talented voices) and the deadpan delivery works beautifully with your simple lines. I wished I could write like that (have insights like that). Did you ever see Gerry Potterton's "Pinter People"? Late sixties, I guess. Based on Harold Pinter dialogues. I think you might like it. Take care, Paul
Lora Hristova 4/01/08
Really loved it, just so enjoyable to watch. Great pace and wicked style. Love the whole concept of the boring bits. Especially the part abou t inspiration coming from boredom. It's so utterly true! I feel like I have too many distractions - computer games, television, internet - things like that. If I didn't have them I would be more inclined to draw, paint..... just be more creative to quench boredom. Sigh. Look forward to seeing more of your work:)
Jesse Barrett 24/10/07
I've watched this about six times, and I can never get bored of it. This film is very inspirational as well as an eye opener to many people dealing with similiar issues, such as purpose, and the search for something better. I ask myself if I'm ever going to be happy with my life. I think until I sort out my "boring bits" and my time of relfection and change comes, maybe something will happen. This film gives me hope. I appreciate this and you for putting the time in creating this work of art. Thank you.
Harold Johnson 23/10/07
Well, it certainly made more sense to me than the conversation I had with that homeless guy earlier today. I enjoyed the dialogue and the uncomplicated drawings. The movements are often subtle, tender in their resulting meanings. I like the quiet pace, the simple renderings.
Robert Schoedel 23/10/07
I was truly impressed by your work. I rarely see something so truly real as that sprout out. Even more impeccable was the fact that it was such an expansive project that took real human understanding and belief. A project that registered real emotion in it. I wish there were more creators such as yourself out there. The world would be a truly more wholesome and far better place. I am sorry that i am using this service to comment your film. But i found that this was a far more appropriate way. Though i am awe-struck by your work, and seem to be unable to voice exactly what i feel towards it, i can tell you this, what i have seen here is something that i pray will influence every person who sees it in a dramatic way.
Kat Molnar 22/10/07
Joe! Fantastic! Really ... briliant. This piece is quite the accomplishment since watching the first animations that came out of the almighty Mac in the good old Seven Sisters days. I love how focusing on the dialogue makes the simplicity of the (painstakingly arduous) animation incredibly amusing.I too, would like to be a weed. Weeds grow on Abbey Road as well right? Cheers from the other side of the pond
Emma Welsby 22/10/07
I really liked it, it is very relevant to some questions I have been asking myself lately so it was comforting to watch in a way! I liked the simplicity of the line drawings and the voices were really convincing as characters. Sometimes I wondered what the birds were but as the eggs came out in the end then it made more sense. I liked the way you wrap the title up in the end and everything firmly falls into place. Your a wee star xxxxx
Mark Hughes 21/10/07
I like it! It feels arrogant or ignorant to say this but that won't stop me... I'm surprised at how insightful "you young people" (sorry :-)), or at least this young person that I met on a train, is. I like the style of the animation, I like the pace, the quality of the voices is excellent. The storyline is effective and addresses something which seems important to everyone represented, from moses to your dad. All ages, the seekers, dissillusioned, and the bewildered. And it offers everyone insight and therefore hope. There was humour too, although it didn't hit the spot for me. It is hard to make me laugh though, so to have amused me properly would have been exceptional (cf. Mil Millington as one of the few who can reliably do this. Also P. G. Wodehouse. I'm sure there are lots more for me to discover but I started reading late. Anyway I'm hard to please with humour). On the other hand, I think there is a lot of humour in the "big questions" and that you might be able to find more in this topic, and of course humour is a great thing to assist communication and audience satisfaction. The only specific I can say about it is that the tone of the hero might be too realistically downbeat. There might have been easier humour in him overdoing it or being unrealistically positive, though both those are a bit cliche'd. Another factor might well be my having just watched England lose the World Cup Final. Having said that, I really like the work for all the reasons I have been able to articulate after one viewing, and am more than impressed on many counts. You've done a great job as far as I can see and I hope it gets you the credit you deserve.
Sinem Erkas 21/10/07
Joe this is amazing. I've seen it a hundred times and I still laugh at the same bits!
Hadrian Ward 21/10/07
Loved the simple lines and the way you could see the changes in the people from the lines - like when he tells her he is leaving the company and her hair changes and eyes change. Bit when they go next to the water looked really good too. Liked dialogue - especially about the coffee!!
Noah Davis 20/10/07
Very good. Very Good. Very Good. Very Good.
Angela Lambert 20/10/07
I am always astounded by what you can do. Maybe that's a given, but I do think I have an ability to see talent, even in my own children. I laughed, felt sad, believed in the characters and found it genuinely captivating to watch. Odd bits of perspective and no-perspective didn't spoil the effect of the whole. The writing is exceedingly clever and well crafted
